Happy new year one and all, welcome to the twenties, at last a sensibly named decade again. Today to blow off the cobwebs and welcome in the new year, we headed for a wander around RSPB Fairburn Ings Nature Reserve. In addition to providing some fantastic views, it also gave me a chance to try out my shiney new lens!

The weather was bright and sunny, although a little cooler than the last couple of days, but still pretty perfect for a wander. We were pretty excited about the prospect of seeing a kingfisher and happily, were not disappointed with a couple of them flitting about. After a few attempts, we even managed to get a couple of half decent pictures.

There were plenty of birds about and we had a great day. I highly recommend a visit if you're ever in the area. Enjoy the photos.

Ok now, we've established we're still up and running, I will write a little bit more. As you have probably gathered from the heading it is my birthday today, and like many birthdays gone by, I am at school. Sadly this year it has not snowed so there has been no early home time, further there's an aweful lot of marking and an essay to write so I think the celebrations will be on hold for a little longer.

Whilst I'm taking the opportunity to write a bit, I should probably update you all with a little news. 2010 was a pretty big year for us as we bought our first house, in Leeds. Its a 3-bed semi close to Roundhay Park with a conservatory and everything! Not being ones to sit on our hands it didn't take us very long to start chopping down trees and remodelling the inside. I think I have probably bored friends and co-workers alike with my moaning about just how long the hall-stairs and landing has taken (and we still have to touch up the paintwork and fit the skirting boards, replace the carpet . . . need I go on).

I'll just briefly fast forward to Christmas. This year we had my mum and sister around and Dani's parents and brother. I think we all had a lot of fun and probably far too much to eat. We had central heating problems but managed to get that sorted just after Christmas so everything is back to normal again. We still have to take down the decorations, but that will probably wait now until the weekend.
